OIB Guideline 7

The OIB guidelines serve to harmonise building regulations in Austria. They are published by the Austrian Institute of Construction Engineering (OIB) following a decision by the General Assembly and are thus available to the federal provinces. The federal provinces can declare the OIB guidelines binding in their building regulations. The OIB guidelines are structured in accordance with the basic requirements for buildings in the European Construction Products Regulation (CPR) on harmonised conditions for the marketing of construction products (EU 305/2011).

Objectives:

Recyclability of buildings Durability of buildings

These structural requirements for buildings are:
1. mechanical strength and stability,
2. fire protection,
3. hygiene, health and environmental protection,
4. safety in use and accessibility,
5. sound insulation,
6. energy saving and thermal insulation, and
7. sustainable use of natural resources.
Only Basic Requirement 7 does not yet have an OIB guideline as, unlike the other six basic requirements, no European basic document has yet been published.

OIB Guideline 7 of the Construction Products Regulation states that a construction works must be designed, erected and demolished in such a way that natural resources are used sustainably and, in particular, the following is guaranteed:

Reuse and recyclability of buildings, building materials and parts after demolition.
Durability of buildings.
Environmentally friendly raw materials and secondary building materials must be used for the building.
